How to Take Your Measurements

Well researched content served with love!

UL+

Each week during the Ultra Lite Program, you will need to take measurements of yourself.

For the Ultra Lite Programs and Challenges, we take measurements of the neck, chest, arm, waist, hip and thigh. These measurements help you to see your weight loss from a different perspective of just numbers on the scale, but also where you're losing weight.

You will need to record your weekly measurements in the form you have been provided with.

What measurements do I need to take

We take measurements of the neck, chest, arm, waist, hip and thigh.

When taking measurements, you should:

  • be wearing tight fitted clothing
  • measure in the same spot every time
  • use a firm measurement - don't leave the measuring tape loose or too tight
  • ask someone to help you if you can
  • check that your measuring tape is straight and in the right position

Neck Measurements

Neck measurements are the same for both men and women.

The measuring tape should be in the middle of the neck.

Ensure your hair is up and out of the way when taking measurements of the neck.

Chest Measurements

For chest measurements, the measuring tape should be across the chest, at nipple height on both men and women.

Make sure your hair is up and out of the way, and the measuring tape is straight across the front and back.

Your arms can be up or down for this measurement.

Arm Measurements

Hold your arm down by your side and keep your arm nice and relaxed.

The measurement should be taken just above midway on the bicep.

Waist Measurements

Waist measurements for men and women do differ. Please see the below images showing where to measure for men and women.

Women's waist measurement

Women's waist measurement is taken at the smallest point of the waist.

Make sure the measuring tape is straight all the way around.

Men's waist measurement

For men's waist measurement, the measuring tape should be in line with the belly button.

Make sure the measuring tape is straight all the way around.

Hip Measurements

Where you measure the hips will change between men and women. See below images and instructions for men's and women's hip measurements.

Women's hip measurement

Women's hip measurement should be taken at the widest point of the hips.

Make sure the measuring tape is even across the bottom and straight all the way around.

Men's hip measurement

For men's hip measurement, the measurement should be taken exactly where the hip bone is.

Make sure the measuring tape is straight all the way around.

Thigh Measurement

The thigh measurement is the same for men and women.

The measurement should be taken just above halfway down the thigh.

Make sure the measuring tape is straight (unlike in this photo) and the leg is straight and relaxed.
